Physical Education

At Diamond Academy we strive to create a culture which aims to inspire an active generation to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve. We provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish in a range of different physical activities which is essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development.

We value the importance of a fun, high-quality curriculum that inspires all pupils to  succeed. This is done by fully adhering to the aims of the national curriculum for physical education to ensure that all children:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy, active lives

Our curriculum enables children to develop knowledge, skills and vocabulary in a broad range of sporting activities, as well as developing values and transferable life skills such as tolerance, fairness and respect - in line with our academy values.

Through enrichment activities we aim to raise the profile of P.E. and offer children the opportunity to take part in sports they would not ordinarily have the opportunity to do.

Our curriculum also supports children to understand the need for healthy lifestyles, a balanced diet, positive mind-set and the resilience to persevere. We also engender  life-long values such as co-operation, collaboration and equity of play.

We provide opportunities for children to learn how to stay safe by starting swimming lessons in year 3, continuing until children have become confident in the water, knowing how to keep safe and also meet the National Curriculum requirements of swimming 25m by the end of Year 6.

The P.E. curriculum is taught through the use of Premier Sports to aid teaching staff to enhance their subject knowledge and planning of P.E. Through the use of coaches,  fun and innovative sessions offer staff the chance to upskill their own practice.

Sports teachers from West Norfolk Community Sports Partnership also support the teaching of PE in school as well as offering a range of Continuous professional development opportunities for teachers.

Swimming lessons run throughout the school year but alternate between classes in each year group.

We offer a range of sporting after school clubs that are run by Premier Sports.

Our curriculum aims to improve the well-being and fitness of all pupils at Diamond Academy, not only through the sporting skills taught, but by underpinning the values and discipline that P.E. promotes. Through strong links with PSHE we promote the overall well-being and health of each child through teaching about self-discipline and that to be successful you need to take ownership and responsibility of their own health and fitness.
