Remote Learning

We’re committed to ensuring children can continue their education at home. We do this via our remote learning package. 

If your child is studying at home, they will be able to immediately access our remote learning resources. Teachers will set work for them to complete. Our teaching teams will set tasks and review work via Microsoft Teams and email.

Each day we would like your child to: 

  • Log in to Microsoft Teams using their school Microsoft account to complete lessons

  • Complete all videos and assessment tasks found within each lesson for that day

  • Check school email for updates, announcements and changes made to Microsoft Teams

If you require support with devices for home learning such as laptops or Internet connection, please contact the school for advice.

Staying in Touch

Your child's teacher will contact you once every two weeks by phone but will check your child's learning portfolio several times a day. If we think that you and your child may need extra support and encouragement we may ring you more often or carry out a home visit to see if there is anything else we can do to help with home learning.
 

Assessing Your Child's Work and Progress

Marking and feedback can take place in many different ways. If your child is completing a quiz online they might only get to know how many answers were correct.  When your child uploads several pages of work for one subject, such as Maths, only one page may get a written comment, which will help them understand what they have done well. and what they need to look at again by making changes or corrections. They may even be given a challenge to do that extends their learning.  Your child should always respond to what the teacher is asking them to do.

All work posted between 9am and 3pm will be reviewed that day, but any work posted after 3pm or at weekends may not be reviewed or commented on until the next working day.
 

Additional Support for Pupils with Particular Needs

We recognise some pupils, e.g. with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) may not be able to access remote learning without support from adults at home. If these children need additional support we will ensure that the work set will be differentiated so it is appropriate to the learning needs of the child. The class teacher and the SENCO will also make additional contact with home every week to offer support and advice both to the parent and the child.
 

Remote Education for Self-Isolating Pupils

Where individual pupils need to self-isolate but have previously been taught in school, they will immediately be able to access the remote learning via Dojo or by requesting a paper pack.

Reading

We value reading at Diamond Academy and ensure that children have access to books that they can read and enjoy. We use Active Learn ‘Bug Club’ for children to access the reading books at their ability level. In addition to this, we also enable all children to access the class-guided reading book. This book is shared daily with the class so your child will become familiar with the book and its contents. Encouraging daily reading of this will help your child become more fluent with the vocabulary used in class. Teachers will ensure that parents know the class-guided reading books via class dojo. Bug Club is not just a place for reading, for successful quizzes and rating of books you will gain coins. Your child can spend these coins on games and on building a tree house. Importantly your child will not be able to communicate with anyone on this site and will enjoy reading the range of books on their account. Class teachers will monitor the book usage and assign more books when needed.

Helpful Tips for Reading at Home

  • Schedule a time and place in the day where you sit down to read with your child.
  • Ensure there is a comfortable, preferably quiet, place to read.
  • Encourage your child to read for at least 30 minutes a day. Try to spend part of that time reading with them and talking about the book.
  • Before reading, encourage your child to discuss what has happened so far and what they think is going to happen next.
  • Encourage your child to speak to other family members about what they have read.

Phonics

This year at Diamond Academy we are proud to introduce Bug Club phonics.  All children will have access to the different games and learning tools to support them in home learning. We feel it is important for children to gain secure phonics knowledge so that they are able to access all learning as they progress through school. Your child will enjoy the games as these give them more opportunities to earn coins that can be used to build a tree house or to access more games. Bug Club Phonics is available via Active Learn using the same username and password.

Spelling

Your child also will have access to the Pixl Vocabulary app, which uses the same username and password as the Times Tables app. This home learning app will help your child develop their understanding of different vocabulary and support them in their reading.


Writing

Each year group will be set a talk for writing home learning booklet on their Class Dojo page. These units follow the process we use in school, with a model text at the beginning and lots of activities that mirror the Talk For Writing process we use in school.

Maths

A daily Maths lesson is posted on Class Dojo every day and includes a video introduction with teaching input from the teacher.  There may be a Power Point to read.  Work will be set using a word document or PDF

One of the most important things that your child can do to support their Maths whilst learning at home is to keep practising their key number facts, including number bonds and their times tables.

All children have a Pixl times tables account. Your child can use this via the website or an app on a phone or tablet. Using Pixl times tables app daily will help your child develop an understanding of their times tables. Again, there is a range of activities on this app that will support your child and maximize your child’s enjoyment of home learning.  Children can compete with children in other schools in a secure platform that does not enable communication. If you need help with passwords etc contact your class teacher via Class Dojo.

Foundation Subjects

Foundation subjects and Science will be covered in daily lessons. A video or audio introduction will be made by the teacher on ClassDojo and any task information will be presented by links to other sites such as Oak Academy for e.g. music or by accessing PowerPoints, Word or PDFs. However, we would like to offer additional resources which you may find useful.
